New Delhi, Aug 11 (UNI) Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday introduced three Bills in the Lok Sabha intending to reform the criminal justice system by replacing age-old laws enacted during the British rule.
The new legislations are the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita Bill, 2023, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Bill, 2023 and Bharatiya Sakshya Bill, 2023 -
Shah said the country’s criminal justice system has been functioning as per the laws made by the British rulers according to their convenience, but these three Bills will replace the existing system.
He said in the prevalent laws crime against women and children was given slot 302, but in the fresh Bills, the first chapter will be crime against women and children.
“Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita Bill, 2023 will replace the CrPc 1860, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Bill, 2023 will replace the Criminal Procedure Code 1858 and Bharatiya Sakshya Bill, 2023 will replace Indian Evidence Act 1872,” said Shah.
“These Bills have been brought with an aim to provide justice to the people rather than penalising them,” he added.
“The digitalisation system has been introduced in new laws so that during the proceedings in Court files of papers don’t accumulate,” he added.
